Its original meaning was "leisure", contrasting the term "negotium" which meant business. Later OTIUM stood for everything you do because it is artistically valuable, or enlightening, not because it is part of your daily business.
Our modus operandi is doing things we want to, not because we have to. You can see that in our attention to details,
the way we design experiences and the dedication we have in providing our clients an amazing experience.
The Man behind OTIUM Experience
Latif the Skipper
Latif is the man behind the project.
He sailed all across the Mediterranean Sea and beyond, in the last 12 years.
It all started as a passion and step by step it turned into a lifestyle. Now Latif spends his time between, island hoping with friends & enthusiasts, sailing competitions, exploring new seas, delivering boats... basically being fully immersed in the "boat life".
Oh by the way... when he's not sailing he loves to cook!

My first sailing experience​​
I still remember how it felt taking my first step onto a sailboat. I was like a child in a toy shop made out of chocolate, on Christmas morning, after drinking 2 liters of sugary drink. Everything seemed unreal to me, all those ropes, that huge wheel, the impressive deck. It was all like a fairy tale. After a short but effective briefing by the skipper, we set sail. I was floating above the boat, which was itself floating on water, Imagine that feeling! After a few moments the skipper opened the sails and for me it was love at first sight. A silly smile spread across my face, a smile that reappears every time I'm on the water and open the sails. It's inevitable, it's contagious, it's true!
What made me start Otium Experience
Fast forward to 2022, by which time I had already: sailed over 10,000 nautical miles, competed for 2 years in the national championship, participated in a delivery as a crew member from Mangalia to Porto Cervo, completed a solo delivery from Mangalia to Athens, and spent many weeks at sea with new and inexperienced crews, formed by old friends... or people with whom I later became friends. With many of them, I shared the passion for sailing. I saw how they wanted to learn more. They would ask questions, enjoy it when I let them take the lead, feel satisfied when they succeeded, and I would rejoice when I managed to teach them something.
The first contact with sailing is very important. I was lucky that my first voyage was with a fantastic skipper. For this reason, I strive every day to become the best skipper and provide the best experience for the people onboard. I hope I can instill in others the same passion and joy of sailing that was instilled in me.
I want to bring the happiness of sailing to as many people as possible!

It means that if you're thinking about a vacation at sea, on a sailboat, sailing from island to island, swimming in turquoise waters... I can help you. I can personally organize it for you. I can certainly answer any questions you have about what a yacht vacation entails: from costs, to the logistics of it and everything in between.
